Project Progress

The project main objectives are the implementation and validation of a low-cost ceramic MBR in a WWTP, the study of the impact and replication of the technology and the definition of a proper business plan to commercialise it.

The work programme of REMEB project is composed by 7 Work Packages. In WP1, the management procedures to monitor the project progress will be defined. In WP6, a comprehensive Business plan and exploitation of results to commercialize the product in the future will be determined. In WP7, all the dissemination activities of all the partners will be covered. The technical issues of each technical Work Package are the following:

FACSA will be the leader of this WP, which intends to ensure an adequate management and coordination among partners within the project in order to achieve the main goals. Fur that purpose, it will encourage proper communication and collaboration among project partners, establish coordination mechanisms among the different management bodies (internal and external), and monitor project technical, administrative and financial progresses.

Duration: Month 1 – Month 36

The objective of this WP is the development of technical activities and the revision of previous research to start in the best conditions the main WPs of the project (WP3 and WP4). This WP will be leaded by FACSA.

Duration: Month 1 – Month 8

The principal aim of this work package is the manufacturing of the low cost recycled membranes for the REMEB MBR. ITC-UJI will lead this WP, providing all the knowledge necessary to manufacture the membranes as in WATERCER project in which the manufacturing was carried out in ITC-UJI laboratories.

Duration: Month 8 – Month 33

WP4 is the most important of the project. In this part of the project the works developed by IMECA will be essential. In WP4 the validation of the technology will be done in a real WWTP which has all the characteristics to be a typical WWTP where REMEB will be installed. IMECA will lead this WP. To validate the technology, a proper experimental procedure will be done to determine exactly the viability of REMEB technology with respect to commercial organic MBR.

Duration: Month 13 – Month 36

Replication of both, membrane manufacture and REMEB MBR, will be done in WP5.

Replication study of membrane manufacture will reveal the future difficulties related to variations in the raw materials and wastes’ composition, and it will be performed by SAM, ITC-UJI and CENTRO CERAMICO. BIOWATER will perform the replicability of REMEB MBR in the industrial sector, by means of testing (in a theoretical study) the new technology in different types of industries, as Food and Beverage, Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, etc. ATLANTIS will develop a proper replicability study of the technology in Cyprus and nearby countries. ESAMUR will define the Spanish market of the technology in urban WWTPs by means the special collaboration of the entity with other administrations (possible future clients of REMEB MBR). Finally, UAN from Colombia will analyse the possibilities of application of this technology in different urban and industrial areas of Colombia and nearby countries. FACSA, IMECA and COCINCS will support replication actions during this work package. ATLANTIS will be the WP leader. ATLANTIS will lead this WP.

Duration: Month 2 – Month 36

This WP aims to demosntrate the exploitation potential of the technology develop within REMEB, taking into account the standarisation aspects of the project, and also to evaluate and maximise the impact of the project.

Duration: Month 13 – Month 36

Leaded by the Valencia Region Council of Chambers of Commerce, Spain, the main objective of this WP is to disseminate the project from its beginning and to spread its progresses and results among the potential interested stakeholders such as public administrations, industry, agriculture sector, academia and scientific world.
